My own review on a particular input device - Planon DocuPen RC800
Finally! =)
Here's my last review for the preliminary lab exam... ;)
This final one falls under the input devices category; and specifically, I will share my own blog about the amazing DocuPen RC800 Portable Scanner.
Why do I say it's amazing? Well it does not only scans pictures, but it can also store scanned image and documents; and it's not the usual scanner we see but take a look at this image below:
Yes! Your eyes are not mistaken! The DocuPen I'm talking about just looks like a pen but this thing is just no ordinary scanner for it simply couldn't be that small and still work (it's almost nine inches long and a half-inch wide, and weighs two ounces). But that impression was quickly set aside, once I read about its specs. :)
The scanner works quite simply by dragging it down the page you're scanning. If you go too quickly a red LED blinks to slow you down. You have a choice of resolutions and colors, chosen by pressing one of the two buttons on the scanner. Plugging the scanner into the computer using the included USB cable starts the import process.
Resolution is up to 400 dpi, and the scanner has 8 MB of memory built in. You can install a MicroSD memory card for up to 2 GB of memory.
Here's a the specific parts of the DocuPen:
The lithium ion battery recharges through the USB cable and it scans as fast as four seconds per page. Though the quality can't compare with flatbed scanners, DocuPen RC800 is lightweight, portable, fast and easy to use. It also comes with software and leather pouch.
This was the one that I presented to the class last Tuesday, 21st of July 2009 and I was so pleased that my classmates were amazed and they really paid close attention. ;)
