My own review on a particular input device - Planon DocuPen RC800

Finally! =)

Here's my last review for the preliminary lab exam... ;)

This final one falls under the input devices category; and specifically, I will share my own blog about the amazing DocuPen RC800 Portable Scanner.

Why do I say it's amazing? Well it does not only scans pictures, but it can also store scanned image and documents; and it's not the usual scanner we see but take a look at this image below:

Yes! Your eyes are not mistaken! The DocuPen I'm talking about just looks like a pen but this thing is just no ordinary scanner for it simply couldn't be that small and still work (it's almost nine inches long and a half-inch wide, and weighs two ounces). But that impression was quickly set aside, once I read about its specs. :)

The scanner works quite simply by dragging it down the page you're scanning. If you go too quickly a red LED blinks to slow you down. You have a choice of resolutions and colors, chosen by pressing one of the two buttons on the scanner. Plugging the scanner into the computer using the included USB cable starts the import process.

Resolution is up to 400 dpi, and the scanner has 8 MB of memory built in. You can install a MicroSD memory card for up to 2 GB of memory.

Here's a the specific parts of the DocuPen:

The lithium ion battery recharges through the USB cable and it scans as fast as four seconds per page. Though the quality can't compare with flatbed scanners, DocuPen RC800 is lightweight, portable, fast and easy to use. It also comes with software and leather pouch.

This was the one that I presented to the class last Tuesday, 21st of July 2009 and I was so pleased that my classmates were amazed and they really paid close attention. ;)

My own review on a particular output device - Epson WorkForce 500 All-In-One Printer

Hello there! =)

This is my second review for the preliminaries’ requirement for the COMP04 Lab… really, I only not consider writing this composition just for the sake of completion… but I find doing my own blogs an enjoyable one… it’s like I’m talking to the one who read this.=)

Anyways, I’ve chosen to focus searching for printers as my review for the latest trends. The one I’ve picked is the Epson WorkForce 500 which belongs to the multifunction printers.

Indeed! It’s multifunctional because it’s so well equipped that it can print, copy, scan, fax and photo, all 5-in-1! I’ve also read that it can also print up to 33 ppm in black and colored wherein there’s an automatic Auto Photo Correction. (You may also check out the site: http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/consumer/consDetail.jsp?cookies=no&oid=63075462&RMID=200101_SOHOnewsletter&RRID=1011748777&com.broadvision.session.new=Yes)

I’ve chosen to present this particular multifunctional printer because I was amazed with it’s specs wherein people could readily create astonishing outputs and remarkable promotional materials at work, even at home and especially for us students at school.

Moreover, the Epson WorkForce 500 has a built-in memory card slots and 2.5 inch LCD that is very useful for us when printing that uses only up to three times less power than a laser printer and it also have a built-in, 30-page ADF including OCR creative software.

I was really amazed with this device because it can print photos even without the presence of computer because of its built-in memory card slots, PictBridge that will be displayed through a 2.5 inch LCD.

This printer has so much more in details that I could furthermore enumerate, but just feel free to visit the site that I mentioned above and you could also search through the web. I guarantee that you would also be interested with this multifunctional printer.

my own review on a particular storage device - Toshiba USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive

July 23, 2009
3:49pm

Aloha classmates! =)

I have just finished searching for my latest storage device that am going to share to the class through this blog…

The kind of storage device that I’m talking about is an external hard disk drive and it’s from Toshiba®. But this is not just any ordinary external HDD because it is portable and can store files up to half-TERABYTE.

Yup! That’s how high-capacity it is and it’s also a practical data back-up solution for all sort of your files like personal, music, home videos and your other digital memory files.

By the way this storage device that I’m talking about is the one I’ve read from testfreaks.com (http://www.testfreaks.com/forum/f13/toshiba-adds-half-terabyte-portable-external-hdd-personal-storage-line-4687/). You may check it if you like. =)
I tried to search for a photo of this device but yet I searched in vain… T.T but don’t worry, I have here its specs that will hopefully give you more info about this techy gadget:

Product Name Toshiba USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive
Capacities 500GB 1

Mac® OS X 10.3.9 or later (Universal Application)

The great thing I find in this kind of storage device is that it’s super advanced and is probably a must-want to IT-inclined people like us who were looking for simple and hassle-free tools to manage and maintain our favorite digital contents and ever-dynamic files.

According to the article I’ve read, though this device have very high specs, it’s still “cost-effective” because of all its upgrades and advancements that’ll surely satisfy you when it comes to using this external hard disk drive.
Personally, I really would recommend this HDD external storage device to those who can afford, or should I say, to those who badly need a storage device with a great size capacity for their work and even to their studies (to those students who are really wealthy)… but a student like me who only depends on scholarship grants to afford school could really not afford one… Optimistically, someday, if I could find a good occupation that would need this device, I would surely buy one…

Samsung to violate Intel policy with 11.6-inch Nvidia Ion-based netbook

Jul. 6, 2009 (5:35 pm) By: Rick Hodgin

Industry sources are reporting that Samsung is engaging in some interesting (and potentially risky) business practices, though ones which may be market driven.

In an unexpected move, but one which follows another major manufacturer, Samsung will break Intel’s restrictions on netbook panel sizes (of being only 10.2-inches or smaller) by creating a Nvidia-powered Ion-based netbook with an 11.6-inch panel. This follows Lenovo’s violation of this very Intel policy last month with their 12-inch Intel Atom N270-based netbook, the IdeaPad S20 (Lenovo is expected to produce 11.6-inch and 13-inch models as well).

As a result, both Lenovo and Samsung have lost preferential pricing on the Intel Atom N270 CPUs. However, the reality may be that this market segment is so large that Intel can no longer control it, and companies like Lenovo, Samsung (and possibly others) can no longer ignore it.

If two mainstream netbook manufactures are willing to bypass preferential pricing on Intel’s Atom N270 CPUs, then it is very likely they are expecting to make up the difference in volume sales of the larger devices. And if true, while this would mean more money for Intel (through more systems sold at a higher unit cost), it would also mean that the recent Intel and Microsoft limitations on what size a netbook should be are not what the market wants.

Led Toothbrush Makes Your Teeth Whiter

Not the most exciting of inventions today, but a twist on an everyday object, which you would imagine would already have been implemented, but hasn't. Take a normal toothbrush, add in a Japanese idea and you have a toothbrush with a built in LED light. The LED is fixed into the brush itself and will enter inside your mouth to assist with brushing and shine up those white teeth more strongly.

The LED toothbrush is said to help with illness prevention, according to the Japanese explanation. We're not sure as to how this would contribute to illness prevention, perhaps due to the ability to clean your teeth more thoroughly, but initial thoughts are somewhat sketchy. The toothbrush will be released in the middle of May, yet no pricing information has been mentioned. It will also be difficult to get hold of one of these unless you can ship one over from Japan itself.

whaT iS a bLoG?

A blog

(a contraction of the term "weblog") is a type of website, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order.

"Blog" can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.
Many blogs provide commentary or news on a particular subject; others function as more personal
online diaries.

A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, Web pages, and other media related to its topic. The ability for readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of many blogs.

Most blogs are primarily textual, although some focus on art (artlog), photographs (photoblog), sketches (sketchblog), videos (vlog), music (MP3 blog), and audio (podcasting). Micro-blogging is another type of blogging, featuring very short posts.
